Nancy Dodge Butler, of Lexington, Kentucky passed away on December 16. A beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Nancy will always be remembered by her family and her many friends for her kind and caring nature.

Nancy was born to Ronald and Alberta Dodge on December 17, 1939, in Poughkeepsie, New York, where her father worked for IBM. Nancy and her younger brother Cyril were close. In high school Nancy became a talented ballerina. The family moved to Lexington, Kentucky when her father Ronald was transferred to the new IBM facility there.

Nancy attended the University of Kentucky, where she met Herman Butler in music appreciation class. He invited her to go get coffee. After several visits to the coffee shop, she confessed that she didn’t really like coffee. They were married on September 5th, 1959. They shared a long and happy marriage and had two sons and two grandchildren. She was at the center of her family and is deeply missed.

Once her sons were in elementary school she returned to the University of Kentucky and earned 2-year and 4-year nursing degrees and enjoyed a long career as a school nurse for Fayette County Schools. She was proud to have established the student health program at the current Dunbar High School when it was built and made several lifelong friends in the school nursing program.

Nancy was also active in her church and in community organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian church where she organized the annual bake sale for many years, and she served on the board at MASH Services of the Bluegrass. Herman and Nancy were also active members of the Central Kentucky Model A Club, taking many trips in their Model A Ford with the club. Their grandchildren also loved riding in the Model A.

She is survived by her husband Herman Butler, brother Cyril Dodge, sons David and Stephen Butler and grandchildren Keaton and Max Butler.

A memorial gathering will be held on February 8 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Clark Legacy Center, 601 E. Brannon Road, Nicholasville, Kentucky. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
