Eric L Moore, age 55 years and 11 months, passed away on November 17, 2024 due to esophageal adenocarcinoma. Born to James Moore and Linda Martin Moore in Manhattan, New York City, Eric was a devoted and proud father, a dedicated brother, friend and colleague. He and his family resided in Salem, Oregon for the past 28 years.
Eric attended Stevens Point Area High School (SPASH) and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a BA in Philosophy, after which he received a JD degree from Lewis & Clark College of Law. He took and passed the Oregon Bar exam only once, following a day after playing 18 holes of golf. After a brief stint practicing law (not his thing), Eric began a career with the State of Oregon, forever the dedicated public servant - just short of 30 years - planning to retire in March 2025.
Eric came west from Madison with a passion for ultimate frisbee, from which he made lifelong brotherhoods (Bonzi, Jaded, Goldberg) and friendships (PhreakOtt, Kibosh, Jackpot). There are too many teams and championships to mention. We are beholden to the forever friends made in the Madison, Portland, Seattle, Corvallis and Eugene ultimate scene. The man in Plaid will always be remembered for his kindness to his teammates and competitors, his dedication to the sport and the spirit of the game, and his incredible humor both on the field and off.
Eric had a passion for music; he was a self-taught guitarist and songwriter. He was a huge Phish fan, going to concerts with his pal Patrick.
Eric's greatest devotion was love for his family. He cherished his sons immensely and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them. A road trip from Salem to Wisconsin this past summer with Stryder was truly fantastic; the pair had a great time together hauling in sport fish along with uncle Chris.
Eric is survived by his sons Maveric and Stryder, brother Chris (Heather), wife Judith, nine nieces, sisters-in-law Lori and Robi (Tim), and bro-in-law Bill. He is preceded in death by his father and mother. Eric will be forever missed. Please celebrate his life as the spirit moves you. We will have a celebration of his life in Summer 2025.
