Scott Norris Regester of Olympia, Washington, passed away on December 10, 2024.  He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Kales, her husband, Kevin, his grandson, Jonathan, siblings, Greg (wife, Jerrine), Dana, (husband, Rafael) and Ross, (wife, Mary), many nieces and nephews, their spouses, partners, children and other extended family.

Scott was born in Tacoma, Washington to Jack and Chris Regester on April 1, 1952.  He loved to banter he was an April Fool’s joke.  Scott’s smart aleck remarks were badges of honor as he enjoyed discussing the plethora of subjects that interested him.

Scott was the eldest of four siblings. He led the charge playing in the sand dunes and skimboarding at the beach, or getting into mischief under the watchful eyes of his observant mom and trooper dad.  Spirited, in attitude he questioned authority always.

Scott loved the beach. One of the favorite times of his life were childhood years living in Grayland. He returned many times to the coast throughout his life.

Scott graduated from North Thurston High School, class of 1970, where he was known as “Cash”. Amongst other post-secondary schools, he furthered his education at Washington State University which he fondly referred to as Wacky-U.  Although he did not graduate, he followed the Cougars the rest of his life. Go Cougs! was a frequent refrain during football season.

Scott was generous in conversation and his interest in others.  He loved to share his knowledge of trucking, rock & roll and blues music, sports, and muscle cars. Although not much of a cook himself, he enjoyed family gatherings, relishing the food and conversations.

Scott spent much of his career long-haul trucking.  He was an encyclopedia of facts about towns, distances and routes across the U.S. Mileage charts were not necessary for him, he had them at the tip of his tongue. Occasionally, his daughter would accompany him on trips riding shot-gun.  Those fond memories were shared throughout the years in family conversations.

Scott survived a prostate cancer diagnosis for over seven years.  While considering if he should participate in clinical trials, he decided if he subjected himself to experimental cancer drugs and it helped one other person, it was worth it.  In addition to be being a smart aleck, he was a complex, compassionate and caring person with a generous heart. His tough exterior was easily softened when help or words of encouragement were needed.

Scott had the gift of time at the end of his life to share meaningful conversations with family and friends. His voice was his calling card.  Throughout his life’s travels he was easily recognized by his deep resonant timbre. His voice will be missed. He will be missed

The family would like to extend a hearty thank you to the medical staff at Woodland Senior Living for the compassionate care Scott received during his last two months, and to Assured Home Hospice of Olympia. A memorial service will be held at Woodland Senior Living, in Olympia, Washington, January 25, 2025 at 2:30pm.
