In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor (Govoni) Dugre on December 18th, 2024 at the age of 83. Eleanor was born on June 24th, 1941, in Brockton, MA, to Louis and Lucy (Del Sordo) Govoni. She is preceded by her husband, Conrad Dugre and her brother, Lawrence Govoni of Boston.Eleanor met the love of her life and beloved husband, Conrad, at the University of MA, Amherst and settled in South Hadley. Married for almost 50 years, Eleanor and Conrad raised an amazing family and followed their passion of exploring the world. Eleanor was known for her kindness, generosity, joy of life, and love and support for her family and many friends. An expert knitter, she enjoyed sharing her passion with others by teaching and mentoring others through various knitting groups.Eleanor was a career nurse for Sisters of Providence in Holyoke where she worked primarily in labor and delivery. Eleanor was also active in the Massachusetts Nurses Association at one time serving as co-chair. She continued her service to others in retirement by volunteering at Baystate Medical Center to rock and comfort newborn babies.Eleanor is survived by daughters Alecia (Dugre) Pettengill and Laurel Dugre, and son Christopher Dugre; son-in-law Michael Pettengill and daughter-in-law Amy (Elmore) Dugre; grandchildren Andrew and Cole Pettengill, and Nicholas, Anthony and Juliana Dugre, and great-grandchildren Aaron and Avery Dugre.The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Arbor’s in Chicopee, O’Connell Care at Home, Maureen’s Group and Brookhaven Hospice for the amazing and compassionate care Eleanor received.Services will be held on Saturday, December 28th from 11:00AM to 1:00PM with closing prayers to begin at 1:00PM at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Dementia Society of America in Eleanor’s name at https://dementiasociety.org.
