Anita Betts Way
December 3rd, 1931 - December 17th, 2024
Anita Betts Way, 93, of West Columbia, SC, was born December 3, 1931, and died December 17, 2024.
Anita had a degree in Music and Christian Education from Scarrit College, TN. She married Marion Way and the couple traveled to Africa where they served as missionaries for the United Methodist Church.
After many years, Anita and Marion were assigned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where they served at the Instituto Central do Povo for over fifty years before retiring.
During those years at the church in Brazil, she had many roles serving as organist, choir director, children's choir director and Christian educator for students at the community elementary school.
Also during that time, she worked at Ana Gonzaga orphanage that served over 100 children ages 4 to 18.
In 2013, she and Marion were honored with the United Methodist Peace Award. Throughout her life she exemplified the love of Christ by serving others.
She is predeceased by her husband.
Surviving are her children, Evelyn, Steven (Bianca), Virginia, her three grandchildren, Julia (Philip), Débora (Antonio) and Daniel, and four great-grandchildren, Abram, Avery, Abigail Rose, and Gabriel.
