James "Rodney" Smith II, 67, of Satellite Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024. Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Rodney embraced the lessons of life, earning his degree from the "College of the Hard Knocks”.

Starting his first business in 1980, he nurtured the earth through landscape and lawn maintenance.  His adventurous spirit led him to switch careers in the early 1990s, obtaining his captain's license and embarking on a 15-year journey of charter fishing. In the late 90s, while still fishing, he brought to life "Coastal Angler Magazine," inspiring countless individuals to use, not abuse, our waterways.

Throughout his years, he published six books; his final book, Stress-Free Living*, was his most acclaimed. His final role was at Publix Super Market in Satellite Beach, as a welcomer and helper to the store.

Rodney became synonymous with the great outdoors, immersing himself in photography, fishing, surfing, walking, hiking, swimming, body surfing, and yoga. His garden was a sanctuary where he could relax in a hammock or labor with love until dusk, cherishing every moment in nature.

A fervent advocate for his community, Rodney founded two nonprofits: Angler for Conservation, dedicated to teaching youth the artistry of fishing, and Kids Dig Gardening, designed to connect children with the joys of gardening and the outdoors.

Rodney's legacy endures through his beloved wife, Karen Smith; children, Alyse Widrig, Lauren Simmons, James Smith, and Jacob Smith; three grandchildren, Devinee Widrig, Isaac Simmons, and Emily Simmons; and sisters, Beatrice Smith and Valerie Smith.

A celebration of life will take place at Pelican Beach Park pavilions in Satellite Beach, Florida from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
