Richard Kent “Rick” Smith, 60, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024.
A native of Guilford County, NC, Rick was the husband of Angela Whisenhunt “Angie” Smith and the son of Richard Merle Smith and Nola Ann Trogdon Smith, both deceased. Rick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as a Lieutenant from the Kernersville Police Department in 2017.
Survivors include his wife, Angie; three children, Christopher Kent Smith and wife, Nikki, Natalie Smith Via, and Zachary Ivan Smith and wife, Mikayla; seven grandchildren, Paul, Jack, Liam, Emma, Hartlyn, Carter, and Remy; three beloved dachshunds, Daisy, Otto, and Misty; brother, Dale “Gus” Smith; and sister, Mitzy Crawford.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Eric Daniel Via and father-in-law, Jerry Whisenhunt, Sr.
Funeral services celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 4:00PM Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the Kernersville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Travis Shannon officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00PM to 4:00PM Saturday prior to the service in the church.
