Warner Robins, Georgia - Sandra Edwards Childs, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 in Cumming, Georgia, eleven days before her 86th birthday after a long courageous battle with cancer. Her life was a tapestry of love, faith, and devotion, woven together with positivity, kindness and grace. She was born December 31, 1938 to Ralph DeWitt Edwards and Opal Keith Edwards in Dalton, Georgia. Preceding Sandra in death were her parents, a sister Patricia Hayman, and her loving husband of 54 years, Homer N. Childs. Together they made a home filled with love, laughter and cherished memories.

Sandra grew up in Macon, Georgia, and soon after graduating from Miller High School, she married Homer. They settled in Warner Robins, Georgia, where they raised four children. Together they built an accounting firm, and her involvement in the business was the support Homer needed to make it a success. They became engaged in the community they loved, and made lifelong friendships. She was known for her compassionate heart, always willing to lend a hand or listening ear to those in need. Sandra's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional support. Her home was a sanctuary where all who entered felt embraced by her gentle spirit and the aroma of her home-cooked meals. She demonstrated her tremendous love for her family with delicious Sunday dinners and famous holiday meals, as well as her wonderful Christmas candy that family and friends looked forward to yearly. She created a peaceful, tranquil refuge in her yard that family, friends, birds and squirrels enjoyed. She was also a true football fan, and she especially enjoyed supporting the Northside High School Eagles loyally for more than 50 years. Her love of sports included the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons with unwavering positivity until time expired or the final inning. Sandra also loved her church family at First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins, where she was a member for over 60 years.

Sandra is survived by her four devoted children: Arlene Grayson (Lee) of Warner Robins, GA, Lisa Brannen of Ball Ground, GA, Jennifer Bourgeois (Al) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jonathan Childs (Heather) of Berkeley Lake, GA. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Harry Brannen, Jr. of Chatsworth, Natalie Fowler (Andy) of Ball Ground, Jenna Brannen of Lawrenceville, David Grayson, III (Stacey) of Dunwoody and Olivia Childs of Berkley Lake; and a doting great-grandmother to Aubrey Fowler, Alvin Fowler, and Avery Grayson. Her siblings, Ralph Edwards, Jr. of Centerville, GA Myra Fiveash of Covington, LA, and Michelle Thigpen (Joey) of Brunswick, GA, also survive her, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by her warmth and generosity. Sandra leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. She was the heart of her family and dearly loved by all of them.

Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the beauty of a heart devoted to others. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of Sandra's life will be held on December 27, 2024 at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the service at Parkway Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Homer Childs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins, Georgia, in honor of Sandra's lifelong commitment to helping others. May Sandra rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Homer, and may her memory be a blessing to all who loved her.
