Jimmy Duncan Kutch passed away peacefully at home in Aptos, CA in the early morning of December 15, 2024.
Jim and Mary Jo met on a blind date on Feb 14, 1961 and were married in Dec of that year. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, two daughters Rebecca Jot (Jean-Marc) and Jennifer Rockwell (Mark) and two grandchildren Chloe and Zackary Jot.
Jim was born in Hobart, Oklahoma to Ocie Duncan Kutch and Jimmie Louise Masoner. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957, began his military service in the Navy at the Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, Rhode Island then served on the USS Basilone from Nov 1957-Nov 1959. Next he attended Fleet Sonar School from Nov 1959 - Nov 1960 and finished in the Naval Reserves in Oklahoma in 1972.. He detached from the Navy as a Lieutenant.
Jim’s banking career began in Oklahoma City. From 1961-1972 he was vice president and commercial lending officer with Fidelity Bank. From 1972-1976 he served as president and CEO of American Bank of Commerce. From 1976-1985 he was executive vice-president, president and CEO of American Natl Bank of Midwest City, and from 1985-1987 he served as vice chairman and CEO of Security Bank of MWC. He then practiced law primarily in the areas of estate planning, elder law, probate and charitable giving from 1987-1995 with the law firm of Pate and Payne in Oklahoma City. He was the director of capital support and planned giving at Oklahoma City University from 1995 until his retirement in December 2000.
Jim was a member of the American Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma County Bar Association, the Oklahoma City Estate Planning Council and the Registry of CFP Licensed Practitioners. He received his juris doctor from the Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1969 and earned his Certified Financial Planner designation in 1986 from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colorado.
He also served on the boards of several metropolitan civic organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce of South Oklahoma City and Midwest City and several area YMCA branches.
Jim joined Rotary International 1974 in South OKC, MWC (Pres 1981), North OKC, and Capitola/Aptos when we moved to California in 2002. He was a Paul Harris Fellow.
Jim and Mary Jo were members of Mayfair Church of Christ in Oklahoma City for over 30 years. He served as a deacon for part of that time. Once they moved to California they attended a number of local churches but landed back in OK with the streaming version provided by Memorial Road Church of Christ during the pandemic. Jim’s faith was instilled in him at an early age and he continued to read his Bible most days that he could.
Though a man of few words, Jim had an incredibly quick wit and delivered one-line zingers with ease and a twinkle in his eye.
He was also a HUGE fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and used to watch the games on television with the sound muted so he could listen to the radio announcers since he couldn’t stand the television commentary!
