Nancy Haberman, 87, of Jefferson passed away on December 23, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Nancy was born on July 29, 1937 in Janesville, WI to Oscar and Elsie (Hauser) Rue. She was the only sister to brothers John, Richard, Robert, and Donald Rue. It was through her brothers that she developed a love of sports, especially football. As a child, she would keep score for their ball games. Starting in the 1960’s, she put this skill to use and kept stats for almost every Green Bay Packer game until very recently. This earned her a nomination to the Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame. She developed friendships with some of the Packer players. Her children can attest to waking up in the early morning, after a Packer game, to find several Green Bay Packer players in their living room. She and Bill were season ticket holders, and their kids now enjoy those seats. Those who knew Nancy well know she probably was responsible for the shutout game on December 23 between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints.

In addition to her love of family, she enjoyed many varied life experiences. She sang in the Barbershop Quartet, with the Janesville Sweet Adelines, and with The Sing-Fun-Ettes Quartet. She worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as a matron and court bailiff. She served on the Jefferson City Council for several terms and was Jefferson’s only woman mayor for a term. She was very passionate about services for seniors and served on every committee established to find a suitable facility for a senior center in Jefferson. This mission was accomplished when the city purchased the property on Collins Road where the current senior center is located. In addition, she was the Director of the Fort Atkinson Senior Center for three years before becoming the Volunteer Services Coordinator at Jefferson County Human Services.

Nancy married William “Slug” Haberman, her childhood sweetheart, on December 3, 1955. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his death on January 7, 2017.

Nancy is survived by four children; David (Julie) Haberman of Whitewater; Wayne (Gale) Haberman of West Des Moines, Iowa; Teresa (Dennis) Altreuter of Oconomowoc; and Mary Haberman-Laesch of Janesville.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Emily (Jon) Roe, Kateley (JT) Grayson, Erik (Allie) Haberman, Owen (Allyson) Haberman, Andy (Emily) Haberman, Ashley Altreuter, Adam (Emily) Altreuter, Allyson Laesch, and Genevieve Laesch along with five great grandchildren: Marcus Roe, Benjamin Roe, Alton Haberman, Palmer Haberman, and August Haberman. Just prior to her passing, she was thrilled to learn she would be having a sixth great grandchild due around her birthday in July 2025. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Haberman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Haberman, her parents, brothers, and an infant grandson, William David.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 6, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be at Union Cemetery where she will be buried with her beloved husband, parents, and infant grandson.

Those wishing to give a donation in Nancy’s name may direct them to the Jefferson Area Senior Center or to St. John Lutheran School in Jefferson.
