In Loving Memory
Helen McMichael Hester, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
A native of Forsyth County, NC, Helen was the wife of the late Jack Hester and the daughter of O. W. McMichael and Fannie Campbell McMichael, both deceased. Helen graduated from Walkertown High School in 1949. In 1952, she graduated from the Nursing School at Charlotte Memorial. Helen married the love of her life, Jack Hester, in 1952. She taught student nurses at City Memorial Hospital from 1955 to 1964. Helen was head nurse from 1964 to 1967 at Wake Forest Student Health Center. In 1967, Helen and Jack moved to Atlanta, GA where she continued her career in nursing until 1998. Other notable accomplishments in her career were receiving a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Allied Health from the University of St. Francis, head nurse at Rockdale County Hospital, and was the Director of Quality and Risk Management for 12 years at Dunwoody Medical, that later became Shallowford Hospital.
Helen and Jack moved back to Kernersville in 1998. She retired and focused on building their house on the land she inherited from her dad, O. W. McMichael. She loved caring for all the roses she planted throughout the yard. It gave Helen great joy to share her roses with family, friends, church members and shut-ins.
She was an active member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Jane Morris Circle and other church activities. Also, Helen was a member of the Robert West Sunday School Class and taught that class for many years.
Helen loved her family so, very much. Survivors include daughter, Lindy Rosado of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tim Toole of Chattanooga, TN; granddaughters, Lauren and Neal Truslow, Megan and Mike Boucher, Kaleigh and Brady Willocks, Lindsay and Alan Maglione, and Allyson Rosado; great grandchildren, Peyton, Harper, Emma, Gunner, Eleanor, Addison, Jack and Eloise; and sisters, Barbara Lunsford and Velda Walsh.
In addition to her husband, Jack Hester and her parents, Fannie and O. W. McMichael, Helen was preceded in death by her siblings, Ava Lee McMichael, Sue McMichael, Shirley Owens, Betty McNeil, and Eddie McMichael.
Funeral services celebrating Helen’s life will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Coppley officiating. There will be a private interment in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, 2715 Darrow Road, Walkertown, NC 27051.
