It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Ileen Black, who departed this world on December 23, 2024, at the age of 97.

Mary passed away peacefully in her home in Payette, Idaho, surrounded by loved ones.

Mary was born on January 17, 1927, in Columbus, Kansas, to Elden and Ruth Mogle. She spent her early years in Columbus before her family relocated to Tonganoxie, Kansas, in 1943. It was in Tonganoxie that she completed her high school education, laying the foundation for a life characterized by strength and determination.

In the year 1948, Mary wed Eugene Black, marking the beginning of a devoted marriage. Together, they shared many adventures, including operating a trucking company. Mary's career spanned several decades with the U.S. Veterans Administration and Forestry Service, through which she lived in numerous cities across the United States, from Kansas City and St. Louis to Los Angeles and Omaha. She ultimately retired in Neosho, Missouri, in 1989 before settling in Payette, Idaho, in 1993, wishing to be near her children. Mary was esteemed in her community not only for her professional achievements but also for her dedication to the Methodist faith and her service as a longstanding member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her compassion and commitment to others were acknowledged by all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene, her parents, brother Robert, and infant son David Eugene Black.

Mary now leaves behind her daughters, Roseann Jordan and Roxann Arnold of Payette, Idaho, and her son Howard Black. Her legacy of love also lives on through her brother James (Shirley) of Columbus, Kansas, a number of cherished nieces and nephews, and her nurturing presence will be deeply missed by her longtime feline companion, Jeri.
