In Loving Memory of Dolores "Honey" Zapata March 7, 1940 – December 16, 2024
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dolores "Honey" Zapata, who left this world on December 16, 2024, at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on March 7, 1940, to her beloved parents, Eligio Flores and Lucy Ortega, Dolores was the 8th of 14 children. She grew up in a home filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family, which she carried into every aspect of her life.
Honey, as she was affectionately known by those closest to her, was a woman of immense warmth and generosity. She had a passion for cooking, always ensuring her home was a place of nourishment for both the body and the soul. She cherished the art of remodeling her home, turning it into a sanctuary where memories were made and traditions flourished. Honey was a pillar of wisdom, always ready to share heartfelt advice and guidance, touching the lives of many. Christmas held a special place in her heart. Honey poured her love into the holiday, filling it with light, joy, and the spirit of giving that she embodied year-round. Her legacy of love and family will live on in the many lives she nurtured and inspired.
Honey was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wenceslao K. Zapata; son-in-law, John Arguello; granddaughter Afton Williams, daughter Donna Szewczyk and multiple brothers and sisters.
Honey is survived by her children Toni Diane Arguello, Christine Artach, Kelly Zapata, Toby Zapata, Mercy Leonard, and Bianca Zapata-Soria; son-in-laws Louis Szewczyk, Jon Artach, Cary Leonard and Daniel Soria; grandchildren Damian Arguello, Marcella Velasquez, Alexis Arguello, Louis Szewczyk, Kelly Cleary, Erik Szewczyk, Gabriel Arguello, Nathan Zapata, Bianca Leonard, Jordan Artach, Kori Leonard, and Kelly Zapata; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and siblings Stella Montoya, Jesse Flores, Leroy Flores, Ruben Flores, and Victoria Nave.
Rest in peace, Honey. Your love, laughter, and wisdom will forever shine in our hearts.
