Charles Edward Callahan III (Chuck) came into this world on April 7, 1943, while his father was fighting in the South Pacific. He spent his early years in Southern California but grew up in the Olympia, Washington area. Graduating from North Thurston High School (class of ‘61) in Lacey, Chuck was always up for new ventures. He lived by his motto: Work hard, play hard and be good.

While raising daughters Kelly and Emily, Chuck worked in the wood products industry and owned Saddleback Lumber in El Toro, CA. After marrying Jo-Ellen, the two established a successful plumbing business, Minuteman, which grew to serve Southern California. When son Ted (Charles Callahan IV) was born, Chuck and Jo-Ellen returned to Washington State. An entrepreneur at heart, he then became a building contractor and developed a lovely neighborhood - Kingston Highlands – and a beautiful waterfront home, site of many family gatherings.

Chuck lived life large. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, traveling, sailing, golfing, and doing “epic shit.” He did everything he wanted to do with Jo-Ellen at his side (44 years). Although he encountered health challenges along the way, he always bounced back - until Alzheimer’s took him on December 20, 2024.

Chuck is survived by his wife Jo-Ellen, his sister Cathleen (Darrel) of Portland, OR his daughter Kelly (David Calderwood) of Huntington Beach, CA and grandsons Ryan Wade and Travis Calderwood, Emily (Joey Barro) of Huntington Beach, their sons Connor, Callahan, and Sonny, and his son Ted (Kaetlin) and granddaughter Josie of Bainbridge Island. Also an Ontario, Canada contingency of in-laws Ron (Viv) Thompson, Liz (Rick) Bailey and a gaggle of nieces and nephews.

The family believes he is sailing into the sunset on a calm sea and, according to his wishes, will gather to release his ashes off the coast of So. Cal. Cheers to a life well lived
