Orin Paul Berg, age 83, passed away peacefully December 27, 2024. He was born on June 2, 1941, in Renville, Minnesota. He lived with his family on a farm in rural Belview, Minnesota. Orin graduated from Belview High School in 1959 and attended 4 years of college at Mankato State University graduating in 1963 with a BS degree in Library science. He then taught school in St James, Minnesota until being drafted into the United States Army in 1966. He did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri then attended OCS at Fort Benning (now Fort Moore) in Georgia where he graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served his deployment in Korea during the Vietnam conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He then attended the University of Minnesota and received his master's degree in library science. He moved to Barnesville, Minnesota and became head librarian at the high school and taught English classes. Orin married Marilyn DiSanto on October 23, 1976. Along with her two children, Damon and Chione, they lived in rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Orin enjoyed reading, gardening, occasional hunting and fishing, as well as, attending his stepchildren’s events. After his retirement he and Marilyn moved to Saint Paul where he worked part time at Enterprise for several years. He eventually moved to an assisted living facility, The Shores of Lake Phalen, until the time of his passing.
Orin was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Berg, mother, Gretchen Berg, brother Alan Berg, nephew Steven Clancy, and sister-in-law Lois Berg. He is survived by wife of 48 years, Marilyn Berg, Woodbury MN; stepson Damon DiSanto (Margaret), Kerkhoven, MN; stepdaughter, Chione Gould (Gerald) Grandin, ND; sister-in-law Diane Berg, Redwood Falls, MN; brothers Terry Berg, Farmington; MN, Roger Berg (Norma), Redwood Falls, MN; and sister Kay Clancy (Ron), Willmar, MN; grandchildren Christopher DiSanto (Nidia), Marshall, MN; Candle Ness (Ryan), Raymond, MN; Crestin Erickson (Nathaniel), Hutchinson, MN; great-grandchildren, Ayden, Norah, Emerson, Elias, Bennett, Belen; and many other relatives and friends. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
