In Tribute to a Valuable Life
Fredrick Ralph Abrams, age 96, passed away on December 18, 2024, in Colorado. Born on June 18, 1928, in New York, he was the son of David Abrams and Jayne Rein Abrams. Fredrick was a distinguished physician and bioethicist whose career left a lasting impact on his patients and the medical community.
Many friends and colleagues have asked how they might honor Fred as a tribute to their long-standing friendship. While this is not at all necessary, I believe Fred would have enjoyed knowing that support in his memory went to a program near and dear to his heart: The Arts and Humanities Program at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities, at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus.
Fredrick earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and went on to receive his M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College. His expertise and dedication led him to a successful career in medicine, where he made significant contributions to the fields of bioethics and medical education. In addition to his academic and professional accomplishments, Fredrick proudly served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Major. He will be privately interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in recognition of his military service.
Fredrick is survived by his 3 sons and his devoted wife, Alice Marilyn Abrams. Fredrick's legacy will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him, both for his intellectual contributions and his dedication to improving the lives of others. He will be deeply missed by his family, colleagues, and friends.
