Vernon Ike Martin

Mr. Vernon Ike Martin, age 83, a resident of Winter Haven, Florida went home to be the Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Martin was born December 10, 1941, in Winter Haven, Florida to Ike Junior and Lucille (Childs) Martin. He was a lifetime Polk County resident, attended Winter Haven schools and a member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and also did mission work in Haiti. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Bay of Pigs & the Cuban Missile Crisis. Vernon was the Owner of Martin Electric in Auburndale, a retired Electrical Engineer for residential & commercial properties. He was a licensed Pilot receiving his license from Jack Brown’s Seaplane Base, Vernon loved to fly. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to different places, going to their home in Blairsville, Georgia, the outdoors, hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother – Donald & sister – Marylou. Vernon is survived by his loving family, wife of 63 years – Nita Martin of Winter Haven; son – Marty Martin of Winter Haven; daughter – Rhonda Harris and husband Tim of Auburndale; brother – Edgar Martin of Winter Haven; sister – Sandra Gunn of Winter Haven and 3 grandchildren – Kelcie Harris, Trenton Harris & Karlee Harris. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 2nd from 6 until 8 pm at Kersey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, January 3rd at Faith Baptist Church, 2140 Crystal Beach Road, Winter Haven. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park.
