Dr. Francisco Ramirez, Jr. (1933–2024)Beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother and Physician

Dr. Francisco Ramirez, Jr., known to many as Dr. Frank, Lolo, and Nonoy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the age of 91 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was a devoted man whose legacy will live on through his family and the many lives he touched during his remarkable career.

Born to Francisco and Obdulia Acurantes on August 4 1933 in Masbate Philippines, Francisco was a man of great discipline, strength, and resilience. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine in 1958, where he specialized in Radiology. In 1969, he moved to the United States where he and his loving wife, Dr. Luz V. Ramirez settled in Cheverly, MD at the time. Their love for each other and their shared ambition led to the creation of a prosperous life for their family in America.

Dr. Ramirez proudly served the U.S. Veteran’s Clinic in Washington, D.C., beginning in 1976, which marked the start of a long standing career with the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. His unwavering commitment to service spanned over 35 years moving to Orlando and, eventually, Fort Myers, Florida, where he was honored to serve as Chief of the Department of Radiology.

While his career was extensive, Dr. Ramirez found the greatest pride in his family. He was a devoted husband to Luz, whom he was married to for 54 years. Together, they raised five children and supported them in their accomplishments. Francisco was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His family brought him unparalleled joy, and nothing made him feel more blessed than watching his children and grandchildren grow.

Dr. Ramirez was a man of routine, rarely missing a day of work, but he also enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He was fond of watching reruns of Walker, Texas Ranger, finding peace in mowing the 10 acres of land that he and Luz lived in Prairie Creek West, Punta Gorda, and enjoying the libations of Jack Daniels within the comfort of his home. Francisco and Luz also loved traveling the world together, experiencing new adventures and creating memories that would last a lifetime. It is with peace in our hearts that we know they are now reunited, continuing their adventures in Heaven.

Dr. Francisco Ramirez, Jr. is survived by his five children: Teresa married to Robert Jacobsen and their children Kristen married to Bryson Appel with their son Noah, Katelyn married to Jeremy Brickey and their son Thor, and Hannah married to her partner Jenn Peeling; Bella married to Jeff Taylor; Francisco Ramirez III married to Joy with daughters  Abigail and Sophia; Honesto Ramirez married to Susan King and step-children Catherine and Max; and Rachel married to John Adams with children Tyler and Avery. Francisco is also survived by his sisters, Norma Ramirez, Teresita Ramirez-Lozano, Nila Rosello, and his brother Florante along with his nieces, nephews and their families who reside across the globe from Sydney Australia, Calgary-Alberto Canada, Seattle, Colorado to the Philippines.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dr. Luz Ramirez, his parents and his younger sister, Ninfa Acurantes Toledo.

A memorial service to celebrate Dr. Francisco Ramirez Jr.’s life will be held at Charlotte Memorial (9400 Indian Springs Cemetery, Punta Gorda FL 33950) on January 6. Visiting hour will be from 10:00am-11:00am and the funeral service will begin at 11:00am. For those who cannot attend the service, please enjoy a sip of Jack Daniels on behalf of Dr. Frank.
