Beers and Story - South Hadley
Gordon "Mike" Boutilier
March 14th, 1943 - December 25th, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon "Mike" Boutilier, who departed this world on December 25, 2024, at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL. Born on March 14, 1943, in Holyoke, MA, Mike spent his formative years in South Hadley before returning to Holyoke to build a life and legacy.
A man of unwavering devotion and commitment, Mike was a devoted husband to his beloved high school sweetheart, Sandra (Beaudry), sharing a remarkable 61 and a half years together. In addition to Sandra, he leaves behind a cherished family, including his children: Mike Boutilier (Debbie), Kevin Boutilier (fiancée Lisa Baren), and Kelly Martins (Victor). He was a proud and loving Pepe to Nicole Pelkey (Derek), Nathan Boutilier, Kyle Martins, Ryan Boutlier (Dayla), Emma Boutilier as well as a doting great-grandfather to Amelia Pelkey, Angelo, Violet, and Joel. He is also survived in life and memory by his sister, Barbara Eckman, and brothers, Charles "Chuck" and David Boutilier. He is predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Amy (Barney) Boutilier, and his brother, Henry "Skip" Boutilier.
Throughout his life, Mike demonstrated an unwavering dedication to his family, frequently placing their needs above all else. Known endearingly as "Pepe," he never missed a sporting event of his grandchildren, even joining their practices to offer encouragement and support. His passion for sports was innate, having played football, basketball, and baseball during his high school years. He went on to coach his boys baseball teams during their youth with such fond memories.
Mike's career began at Scott Graphics in South Hadley, where he initially honed his skills. Then starting to work in construction with Billy Calkins at Calkins Construction, he then went on to establish Boutilier Construction, marking a new chapter of accomplishments and contributions to his community. His life, however, was not solely defined by his professional achievements. Mike found solace and joy in the simple pleasures at his cherished cottage in Heath, MA, where he relished fishing and exploring the local wildlife with family and always had a fire burning.
To honor Mike's life, on Saturday, January 25, a visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, followed by a memorial mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. He will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34150, in recognition of the compassionate care provided.
