Legacy
Patty was born on May 13, 1964, to Harry and Catherine Anderson in Philadelphia, Pa. Patty is from Good Shepherd Parish in Southwest Philadelphia and attended high school at Padua Academy in Wilmington Delaware. After completing high school, Patty attended and graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1998 and has practiced as a Registered Nurse until 12/25/24.
Patty married Matthew McSweeney in 1994. Patty and Matt were also lifelong friends, both from Good Shepherd parish in Southwest Philadelphia, and socialized with the same group of friends since grade school. They have two wonderful and loving sons, Matthew and James, who Patty cherished beyond words.
After graduating first in her class with a degree in Nursing, Patty started her first Nursing position at Wills Eye Hospital, now Jefferson Hospital of Neuroscience, as a Neuroscience Step-Down Nurse. Patty also worked at Jefferson University Hospital as an Orthopedic Nurse for a number of years, but found her calling as an Emergency Department RN, where she positively impacted so many lives in her own community. Patty oriented and precepted many nurses throughout the years, and eventually settled into the Emergency Department Charge Nurse role at Jefferson University Hospital/Washington Township Campus. It was here that Patty thrived. She loved the team she worked alongside with and always made sure to take care of the patients, families, and the entire healthcare team that work tirelessly to save lives there every day.
Patty was someone who enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life as long as they involved her family and friends. She loved her Bravo reality TV shows, any Law and Order she could find, and various murder mystery shows. Patty was a life time lover of the Bob Pantano Dance Party and tried to never miss a Saturday night dance party when she wasn’t working. Patty’s idea of the perfect night off was sitting at her beautiful island at home, listening to the Bob Pantano dance party with Matt, the boys, family, and friends - or any combination. She was an expert on which nights he was “on fire”, and which he wasn’t. Recently, one of Patty’s happiest moments was when we were celebrating her Sixtieth birthday at their home, and Bob wished Patty a Happy 60th Birthday, twice. That is a picture of pure happiness that we will always remember.
Patty also enjoyed her time down the shore and spent every summer making sure she took her vacation at the beach, as long as she didn’t go down until 3pm (when "the sun wasn't as strong". She cherished the vacations the family was able to take like going to Disney World and OBX. Patty and Matt began traveling recently and were so happy to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with her lifetime dream of traveling to Maui, Hawaii five years ago. She and Matt also recently traveled to see her best friends Michelle and husband Jay in Florida, and then spent their most recent anniversary visiting Savannah.
Patty was also a life-long Phillies fan and still talks about one of the greatest days we had at the 2008 Phillies Parade after winning the World Series. Patty was loved by many and will be greatly missed by many.
