Riverside Funeral Home - Albuquerque
M. Max Garcia
January 1st, 1931 - November 25th, 2024
Max Garcia, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, devoted partner and a remarkable man who influenced so many lives. Born on January 1, 1931, in Anton Chico, NM, Max departed this world just short of his 94th birthday, at home on November 25, 2024, surrounded by family. Max was preceded in death by his ex-wife Elva A. Garcia, son Larry G. Garcia, and is survived by five daughters: Debra S. Garcia (Christine Scharm); Lori Garcia Nidel; Dori M. Garcia; P. Maxine Garcia; Denise G. Lopez (Larry Lopez); and his beloved companion, Jenny Sanchez and her family.
Max had an exciting career, jumpstarted by his time in the Air Force, completing his duty as a Master Radar technician. After an Honorable Discharge, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of New Mexico. Max held numerous Senior Engineering management positions at EG&G, Digital, and Hewlett Packard in Albuquerque and Phoenix. He particularly enjoyed his position as part of the civilian scientific engineering crew on the AFSWC-NC-135, also known as the Air Force Weapons Laboratory operated by the Air Force in coordination with the Atomic Energy Commission. He often referred to this airplane as a “flying lab” in which the scientific crew researched and photographed solar eclipses, atmospheric effects of magnetic fields and nuclear testing preparedness.
After retirement, he relished in woodworking projects as well as the design and construction of significant home remodeling projects and building cabins in the mountains for family and friends. His love and pursuit of travel (he’d landed on all seven continents) also continued in his retirement years.
Known for his tolerance, thoughtful advice (only when asked), Max was the rock upon which his family and friends leaned. Whether offering a steady hand, or advice on a project, he was always the one to make things right. A natural fixer and doer, he took on every challenge with quiet determination, ensuring that the lives of those around him were better because of his actions. Dad was loved immensely and will be missed.
A Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at St. Therese Church, 3424 Fourth Street NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
While his absence leaves an immeasurable void, we find comfort in the sound of his laughter and the countless memories of our time together
