Michael Raymond Scalpato
December 31st, 1942 - December 26th, 2024
We are saddened to report the passing of Michael R. Scalpato peacefully on Hilton Head Island at his beloved retirement home, on December 26, 2024.
Born on December 31, 1942, Michael was the only child of Michael J. and Nellie Scalpato of Philadelphia, PA.
Michael graduated from St. Joseph’s Prep in 1960 and credited this foundational education there as the pillar of his professional success. After graduation, he attended St. Joseph’s University receiving a B.S. in Business. Years later, he secured his M.B.A. from Suffolk University in Boston, MA, where he joined the National Honor Society of Graduate Business Schools. Professionally, he secured his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations from the American College of Life Underwriters in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Michael was a member of the Knights of Columbus and rose to Fourth Degree.
An avid sports enthusiast, he supported his beloved Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
He also secured and maintained a national ranking with the United States Tennis Association age-based singles play ranking system. Additionally, Michael loved golf and was a competitive opponent.
Michael’s career was long and noteworthy beginning with a corporate fellowship with John Hancock followed by 27 years of executive responsibility. Prudential provided similar opportunities and tenure concluding with years of Emeritus financial consulting.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Vadden Scalpato; son, Michael Edward Scalpato and spouse Heather; daughter, Monica Rose Burke and grandchildren, Raymond and Joseph Scalpato and Molly and Abigail Burke.
Michael’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 7, 2025, at St. Jerome's Catholic Church at 8100 Colfax Street in N.E. Philadelphia, PA 19152 at 10am. The burial will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery at 1600 Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA 19064 immediately following.
