Starting in 1945, he attended George of Poděbrad Gymnasium, the equivalent of high school, in Czechoslovakia. He began his medical studies at Charles University in Prague in 1951, completing pediatrics studies at Palacký University Olomouc in 1957. There he met his first wife Dana Kozáková.

In 1964, he moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he served as the Director of Pediatrics at St. Mary’s Clinic. Most notably he treated the grandchildren of the last Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie.  After the passing of his first wife, he moved with his two older children to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he met his second wife, Dr. Tania Aynat Sailer while they worked at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. He later moved his family to Columbia, South Carolina, where he practiced pediatrics in the Irmo area.  He coached numerous Irmo soccer teams to championships. In 1978, Vojtech started an annual hiking trip to Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains, this tradition will be continued for many years to come.

A modern Renaissance man, Vojtech was a self-taught classical pianist. His other passions included tennis, hiking, kayaking, yoga, cycling, soccer, skiing, and painting.

He was predeceased by his first wife Dana Kozak Sailerova and his brother Dr. Jiri Sailer.
