Emily Kay Garvin Baughman was a resident of Lexington, SC. She was born August 3, 1943 in Columbia, SC and grew-up in West Columbia, SC.  She deceased December 31, 2024.  Emily was the daughter of the late George C. Garvin and Ebilee Kleckley Garvin.  She was the widow of Carl Baughman.

Emily graduated from Brookland Cayce High School and is a graduate of Newberry College, receiving a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.  

Emily was a retired school teacher and taught mainly third grade in Aiken and Lexington Counties. Emily enjoyed singing, travel to the mountains, and beach destinations, and shopping. Emily’s church membership history includes Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in West Columbia and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC.  

Among her survivors are first cousins, including being childhood neighbors, are Dr. Clay Kleckley, Mrs. Nancy Kleckley Hughey, and Dr. Gretchen Kleckley.  Emily was godmother to Rebecca Kleckley Jones, the daughter of Dr. David M. Kleckey, first cousin and now deceased.  Tyler Jones and Tess Jones, David's grandchildren, were adored by Emily, and she was basically a daily fixture during their early childhood years.

Appreciation is expressed to Judy Keith and Linda Adams, long-term and recent caregivers for Emily.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Emily's life on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd. Lexington, SC.  Funeral Services will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel.  Emily will be laid to rest at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
