Barbara (McConnell) Gross of Paris, KY, widow of Carl M. Gross, Jr., passed away suddenly due to medical reasons on Monday, December 30, 2024 at UK Hospital. A native of Lexington, KY, she was born on February 5, 1959, to the late William Thompson McConnell, Sr. and late Geraldine (Hart) Ewalt. She was also preceded in death by her brother Bill T. (Sheila) McConnell, her grandparents, step-father, aunts, uncle, and parents-in-law.
Barbara is survived by siblings Teresa McConnell (Clarence) Johns, Dina McConnell (Sid) Adams, Paul K. (Lynn) McConnell, Pat McConnell (John) Boardman, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by step-daughters Carla (Mike) Craig, Martha (Cliff) Walters, her late husband’s siblings, Nancy (Larry) Jones, Layton Gross, Wayne Gross, grandchildren and extended family.
Barbara was a graduate of Bryan Station Senior High School, attended the University of Kentucky and Lexington Community College. She worked at Lexington hospitals and for various physicians as a medical transcriptionist for over 30 years. She retired from a management position with an international medical transcribing firm.
Barbara enjoyed home life with Carl, fostering children, excelling at gardening and landscaping, working on family genealogy, dabbling in arts and crafts, and providing a loving home for her beloved pets. Her special involvement with outreach projects included teaching GED classes to those in need and donations to various charities.
