Gerard (Jerry) Joseph Kotula of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away on 12/24/2024, age 83. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity.
He was born in Lakewood, Ohio to Joseph George Kotula and Agnes Celine (Stribula) Kotula. Jerry lost his father in 1944; His father was fighting the 2nd World War and died while serving in France.
Gerard entered the military (Navy) in November of 1958 and stayed active duty until August of 1961. During his tour of duty, he was stationed on the USS John R. Pierce (DD-753). When Jerry was honorably discharged, he joined the Naval Reserve until November of 1964.
After his military service, Jerry returned to the Cleveland, Ohio area and worked at the Kelly Springfield company. After his mother’s passing in 1985, Jerry moved to St. Augustine Florida. While in Florida, Jerry joined the American Legion, post 115. He enjoyed the comradery he shared with his fellow Legionnaires. In 2017, Jerry moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado to be near his brother Armand and family. Jerry enjoyed many adventures in the “Wild West” of Colorado with his brother Armand, camping, hunting, fishing.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe Kotula and life partner Bessie Parker.
Jerry will be deeply missed by those he left behind; brothers Armand Kotula (Bonnie), Robert Kotula (Madeline), Niece Marina Hulbert (Casey), Nephew Alexander Kotula (Cassie), great-niece and nephew Evelyn and Tristan Hulbert and many other family members and friends.
Jerry wished to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado with military honors. The service is scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025 at 1 p.m.
