Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Homes - Syracuse
Mark Gile
April 14th, 1955 - December 29th, 2024
Mark Gile, 69, of Syracuse, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 29, 2024 at home. He was born April 14, 1955, in Syracuse, to Harvey and Helen Gile. He graduated from Corcoran High School in 1973 and received a B.S. degree in Earth Science in 1979 and a B.S. in Computer Science in 1981 both from SUNY Brockport. Mark worked as a software engineer for many companies located in California, New York, North Carolina, Maryland and Connecticut. One of the highlights of his career was working on the software upgrading for Atlanta’s MARTA for the 1996 Olympics.
Mark was a music enthusiast who began playing guitar at a young age and played in a band with friends in his teens. He enjoyed both playing and collecting guitars for most of his life. Mark lived in Hilton, New York for a long time and moved back to Syracuse when he became disabled in 2011. He was able to live in his own apartment and enjoy what he loved most listening to music from his extensive CD collection and going to concerts from time to time. He attended both Paul McCartney’s concerts at the Dome as well as Bruce Springsteen’s concert in 2024.
He is survived by his sister, Patrice (Trissa) Gile of Syracuse, as well as several cousins and some friends from childhood and his teen years. His family would like to especially thank aides that provided care to Mark during this time. They became more like friends and family to Mark and his sister. A calling hour will be held at 10 am January 13 at Our Lady of Hope 4845 S Salina Street. A funeral mass will follow at 11 am. Burial will be later this year in Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown, NY. Contributions in Mark’s memory may be made to AccessCNY.
