Dolores Mae DiGiallonardo passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the age of 93. She was born on May 9, 1931, in Denver, Colorado, to Thomas and Carmela DeCino. She spent her childhood years in Frederick, Colorado along with her three brothers and three sisters.
Dolores met her husband, Domenic, in her late teens. He just happened to be best friends with her brothers. Dolores and Domenic were united in marriage in 1949. Their marriage was an inspiration for 69 years until Domenic's passing in 2018.
Dolores lived the majority of her married life in Longmont, Colorado. She established many special friendships through her and Domenic's work and through her church life. She enjoyed an evening of bridge with her FAA friends, dinner dances with her brothers-in-law and their wives, Bronco games, camping trips with family and friends, and hiking in the nearby mountains. She also held various accounting jobs in Longmont.
From a young age, Dolores enjoyed sewing and cooking. She became an accomplished seamstress as she created beautiful apparel for her four daughters, custom drapery, and impeccable quilts. Her family will cherish personalized quilts for years to come. Cooking was a passion Dolores was known for. She shared this talent with her daughters as well. It was an honor to be invited into her home and to enjoy her amazing homemade cuisine.
In 1982, Dolores and Domenic made a bold decision to sell their home in Longmont and move to the cabin they built in Allenspark, Colorado. They spent four years there, enjoying new friendships, but most importantly, relishing every moment in the Colorado mountains. This cabin was the center of many family gatherings and still remains in the family. Wanting to be closer to a growing and active family, they decided to move back to Longmont. After Domenic’s passing, Dolores made another huge decision to move to Fort Collins in 2018. There she became an active resident at Winslow Independent Living facility. It was a blessing to have her nearer to all of her daughters and their families.
Dolores' profound faith in God was evident in so many aspects of her life. She had a warm, gentle spirit and was devoted to helping others less fortunate. Most notably, were the twelve years she and Domenic delivered Meals on Wheels in the Longmont area. She was an amazing caretaker for her mother and mother-in-law in their last years. She comforted and cared for Domenic as his health declined. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rocky Mountain Christian Church and LifeBridge Christian Church.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Domenic. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Karen Ballard (Jim), Sharon Moddelmog (Wayne), Lisa Conti (Dante) and Ann Hendrix (Vince.) Her legacy will also be carried on by her seven grandchildren: Courtney Strong, Tracy Funk, Corey Moddelmog, Marco Conti, Dante Conti, Stefany Grant, and Rachel Larsen. In addition, she was blessed with eleven greatgrandchildren. May sweet memories of Dolores bring comfort to all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held, in Dolores’ honor, at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, Niwot, Colorado, on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
We ask that you honor her request, in lieu of flowers, to please donate to either Meals on Wheels of Longmont or the OUR Center (Outreach United Resource Center, Inc.) of Longmont.
