Parker Thomas Oborn passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. Parker was born on June 26, 1936 in Bloomington Indiana to George and Betty Oborn. He attended Wesleyan University in Illinois and subsequently, became Assistant Superintendent in the Evanston, Illinois school district. He moved to Denver, Colorado in 1956 where he attended the University of Denver, receiving his Doctorate in social work. Parker was an associate professor in the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. He was a co-founder of Women in Crisis in Evergreen Colorado. He was in private practice in Englewood, Colorado for over 50 years, providing individual and family therapy as well as helping children and their parents navigate the challenges of divorce with compassion and empathy. He conducted hundreds of child custody evaluations and often testified as an expert witness in numerous states. He was also a member of the Child and Family Mental Health delegation to the People’s Republic of China.

Parker loved working on his 1880’s log house and was always eager to drive his 1955 Farmall tractor. He was often a familiar sight in the winter, driving down the road to plow out the neighbors’ drives. His respect for nature kept him busy for hours on end working to improve the mountain land he so loved.

He enjoyed classical music and at one time had played with the Chicago symphony.

Parker will be remembered for his ability to bring people together by respecting and honoring each person’s unique human qualities, whether through his professional efforts or his kindness and generosity to all those who knew him, as he was always willing to give a helping hand whenever needed. He will be deeply missed by each of us who were fortunate enough to have him be a part of our lives.

He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Oborn. He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Hatch, two sons, Thomas Oborn, Christopher Oborn (Jolene Oborn), daughter Charlene Seperich (Randy Seperich), daughter, Malina Larimar, a brother, Daniel Oborn, as well as four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
