April Bennett Cabral
May 27th, 1973 - December 19th, 2024
April Bennett Cabral - 51, of St Petersburg, FL, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. A beloved mother, daughter and sister, she is survived by her three children with former spouse Robert Cabral; her mother Marie Vargo; and brother, Thomas E. Bennett. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas L. Bennett.
Born in Tampa, Florida, April set her sights beyond the Sunshine State. After completing her undergraduate studies, she embraced the unknown and moved to Japan to teach English, a decision that gave her new experiences and lasting friendships. Upon returning to the United States, she moved to New York City — her favorite place in the world — where she earned advanced degrees in English Literature and Law while teaching Freshman Composition at a city college.
April began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the 15th Judicial Circuit of Florida, in West Palm Beach, FL, and transitioned to a position with the federal government as a Senior Policy Advisor at the U.S. Agency for Global Media in Washington D.C.
Upon retiring, April returned to Florida and created a loving home for her children in St. Petersburg. An avid reader, April could always be found engrossed in a book wanting more time to finish a page or chapter. Naturally, she instilled a love of books and reading in her children, making countless trips with them to the library and regularly reading together out loud. A deep researcher and scheduler of all things, she especially loved to plan trips. She made many memorable trips, locally or afar, with her children and friends. April also dedicated time to activities meaningful to her. With education being a priority, as well as community, April made time to volunteer at her children’s school and serve with her local neighborhood preservation association.
Along the way, April touched the lives of many people. No suitable words can sum up how much she will be missed. She was extraordinary and lived her life fully, making lasting impressions on those that knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to charities or non-profit organizations dedicated to metastatic breast cancer research.
