Stephen K. Quick, of Hilton Head, SC passed away at the age of 69 on January 9th, 2025, after a courageous 6-month battle with metastatic lung cancer. He took his last breath in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife and two children.

Stephen was born on November 2,1955 to William and Barbara Quick in Durham, North Carolina.

After graduating from Durham High SC in 1974, Stephen received his bachelor’s degree in history from Wayne State. Upon graduation he decided to shift his career trajectory and embark on what would eventually be a 36-year career in the Insurance Claims business in Chicago, Illinois.

While the industry provided him and his family with a living, he followed his passion for history by continuing to teach and reenact living history throughout the country. He was an avid reader and researcher primarily about the Revolutionary War, Civil War and both WW1 and WW2. He especially loved sharing his passion for history with children. Most recently, he focused on Scottish History and was able to take a much-anticipated trip to Scotland. He worked at the Heyward Museum in in Bluffton, SC and portrayed Nathaniel Green in a historical film that will be released in March.

In 1979, Stephen met his beautiful wife Suzanne and during their 43-year marriage they had two children, Michelle and Matthew and two grandchildren Cameron and Lucia. He always said the joy of his life was raising his children with Suzanne. He was a loving and participatory father, always there to support and encourage his children to fulfill their dreams.

In 2018, Stephen returned to the South to his dream retirement destination, Hilton Head, SC. He was grateful to live in the community of Moss Creek which provided natural beauty and a community of loving and supportive friends. During his retirement years he enjoyed bike riding, pickleball, coaching at the youth soccer camps at church, continuing to teach history, and most importantly, spending quality time with family and friends.

Stephen is proceeded in death by his mother Barbara and father William. He is survived by his wife Suzanne; daughter Michelle (Marcos); son Matthew (Karie); grandchildren Cameron and Lucia; his sister Kathy (Gerald), and brothers David and Paul.

A service will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church HH on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 1:00 ET with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church or the Heyward Museum in Bluffton.
