Joseph Anthony Sciammetta
October 4th, 1952 - January 11th, 2025
Joseph Anthony Sciammetta, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on January 11, 2025. A man of resilience and determination, Joseph embodied the spirit of his beloved hometown—tough, straightforward, and unyieldingly loyal to those he loved.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosemarie Sciammetta, and sister Rosemarie Sciammetta whom he loved deeply. He is survived by his children: Joey, Eva, Anthony, Angela, and Frank, all of whom carry his strength and determination within them. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Charlotte, Tori, Anthony, Isaiah, Aaliyah, Sheldon, Alex, and Michael, who were his pride and joy.
From a young age, Joe developed a passion for Coney Island, where he spent much of his childhood. He became an avid advocate for its history and preservation, even appearing in a documentary about a beloved amusement ride being retired after decades of service. His love for Coney Island extended into his hobby of scrapbooking, where he meticulously documented family vacations and his cherished memories of the iconic destination.
Joe was also a passionate sports fan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of players and stats across all teams, but his favorite sports to watch were hockey and basketball. His enthusiasm for sports was matched by his ability to recount even the smallest details of games and players from any era.
A devoted provider, Joe worked tirelessly to ensure his family had everything they needed, often sacrificing his own wants to care for those around him. While he could be tough and stubborn at times, his unwavering love for his family shone through in everything he did. His big personality and even bigger heart made him unforgettable to those lucky enough to know him.
Joe’s legacy lives on in the laughter, resilience, and love he instilled in his family. He will be remembered as a father, grandfather, and friend who was unapologetically himself and who valued hard work, and family above all else.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your love, grit, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved you.
A visitation will be held at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, January 18, 2025 between 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
