Our dear mother, Arlene Margaret Carr, was born on the 21st of April, 1936 to Wendell and Margaret Tibbetts in Seattle, Washington. She passed away on the the 30th of December, 2024 in Tumwater, Washington. Survived by daughter Heidi (Steve) Skeen of Salem, Oregon, daughter Lorraine (Patrick) Clarke of Olympia, grandson Jared Clarke, of Olympia, and grandson Ryan (Paige Tunby) Clarke, of Olympia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Richard (Rick) Carr in 1995, husband Richard (Dick) Carr in 2015, brother Gordon Tibbetts, sister June Tibbetts, as well as her parents. Arlene and Dick married on the 7th of September, 1957 and were married for 58 years before Dad passed. Mom lived in the Seattle area for 25 years and Bothell for 61 years, before moving to Olympia in 2022 to be closer to family.

Arlene was a 1954 graduate of Roosevelt High School and went on to the University of Washington, where she received her BS in Nursing in 1959.  She was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at University of Washington and enjoyed lifelong friendships with many treasured sorority sisters and classmates. She is survived by her dearest friend Beverly Rich (“Auntie Bev” to us kids).

Arlene had a long career in Elderly Care at Northshore Manor in Bothell and The Hearthstone in Seattle (Green Lake). She was a devoted and caring nurse and became Director of Nursing in both places. Arlene had a long history of volunteer work, and made a big impact on many people over the years. She was on the Health Occupations Committee for Northshore School District for 40 years, volunteer nurse at Girl Scout day camp, and Girl Scout leader for both Heidi and Lorraine. She was a wonderful and caring neighbor and was known as the “neighborhood nurse” in the home she lived for 61 years. She was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church (previously known as Our Savior Lutheran Church) in Lake City for 80 years. She also loved going to shows and live theater. She particularly enjoyed and loved Seattle Men’s Choir and was a supporter for years.

Arlene grew up on the shores of Lake Washington and had a love of the water.  She taught Dick how to waterski! We all have memories of going to “Grandpa’s Lake”, which is what we called Lake Washington, and learning to swim and waterski there. She also loved snow skiing, camping, and road trips with our Dad.  She had an amazingly beautiful smile and was truly kind and generous to everyone.

Many thanks to Fieldstone Assisted Living in Olympia for Mom’s care and community. We are grateful to the owners, staff, and community at A Place Called Home in Tumwater for Mom’s excellent care at the end of her life. The staff of Assured Home Health and Assured Hospice are angels on Earth and we are forever grateful for the care Mom received.
