James Peter Nolan
July 5th, 1936 - December 31st, 2024
James "Jim" Peter Nolan, 88, has lived in Colorado Springs, CO since 1975. He passed away peacefully at Penrose Hospital on December 31, 2024. Over the past year in particular, he has been lovingly caring for Kiyoko, his wife of 66 years in their home.
Jim was born on July 5, 1936, to Edgar James and Gertrude Leso Nolan in Watertown, New York. He has six brothers, two who died when they were very small. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Michael "Mike", Anthony "Tony", William "Bill", and Timothy "Tim" - who, while growing up they were referred to by the neighbors as "The Nolan Boys". Jim loved to share stories of his growing up, pranks, and just stories about his life. Jim loved sports - the New York Yankees; rebuilding and restoring old trucks inside and out. He was a carpenter - he built beautiful wooden furniture. He could build or repair anything.
Jim served in the USAF for twenty-two years. It was there when he was in Japan, he met Kiyoko Sugiyama - fell in love and were married on July 3, 1958, in Wakamatsu, Japan.
His Air Force tours took him to Biloxi, Mississippi; Banbury Oxford England; and Cross City, Florida. Jim did a tour in DaNang, Vietnam. During this time of his career, Kiyoko and Joanne lived in Watertown to be closer to his family while he was in Vietnam. After Jim's return from Vietnam, he was stationed 4 years in Colorado Springs. They then moved to Lajes AFB Azores Portugal where Jim (Jr) was born. After waiting fifteen years, Joanne had a little brother. On Jim's last tour with the USAF, he chose to finish his career in Colorado Springs.
After twenty-two years in the Air Force, he retired as MSGT/ USAF.
Jim and Kiyoko still reside in Colorado Springs until his passing in December. He and his son always had some sort of project going on at the house - and they built a garage next to their house.
Jim was funny - he loved to tell stories of his life growing up in Watertown, about his parents and his brothers, about the Catholic school and the Nuns. He loved his Church and his family. Jim made lifelong friends and managed to keep in contact with family and friends across the US, Canada, and Japan.
Jim is survived by Kiyoko, his wife of 66 years, children Joanne Galindo (Conrad and Granddaughter, Cameron - Del Rio, TX) and James B. Nolan (Colorado Springs), sister in law, Jill and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was loved by many - he will be missed and remembered by all of us.
