Josephine Shaffner Forsberg, 85, died January 12, 2025. She was born in Charlotte January 21, 1939, to Edward Turner Shaffner and Josephine Burwell Shaffner. She attended Central High School where she enjoyed cooking classes and where she won an award for her sewing.  After graduating from UNC-G in Clothing and Textiles, Jo worked in NYC for three years as a lab analyst at Eastman Chemical Company. While there she  enjoyed an extended tour of Spain with a colleague. In 1964 Jo moved back to Charlotte to work at Celanese Corporation where she met Max Forsberg. They were happily married for fifty-nine years. After their children were born, Jo chose to stay at home with them, and they were her greatest love and joy (her words). When their children left for college, Jo started a catering business with a friend. They hosted  wedding receptions and special parties. After her grandchildren were born, Jo retired again from regular work to spend time with them. Jo got pleasure from  genealogy, local history, and historic preservation. She was an active volunteer and officer in Citizens for Preservation  and Mecklenburg Historical Association. Jo enjoyed collecting seashells, searching for Civil War artifacts, arranging flowers, birding, reading mysteries, and needleworking. Jo was a happy, healthy, upbeat person who added greatly to the lives of many people. She is survived by her husband, a daughter in Charlotte, Peggy Church (Dan), a son in Raleigh, Eric Forsberg (Jennifer), six grandchildren, Cameron Church (Hayley), Seth Church (Tyler), Hanson Church, Chloe Church, Corinne Forsberg, Jack Forsberg, a great grandson, Christopher Church, and a sister, Edna Moretti. The family would like to thank the thoughtful caregivers at The Sanctuary. Burial will be private.

Our services are crafted to honor your loved ones in ways that are both deeply meaningful and healing. Our rich history began in 1946 when Irvin W. Hankins and James B. Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
