Mary Longway McDowell
February 25th, 1960 - December 13th, 2024
Mary Longway McDowell, 64, born on February 25th, 1960 in Hillsboro, OR and long-time resident of Sherwood, OR, passed away on December 13th, 2024 due to an act of violence.
Mary was a sweet, kind and caring soul with a delightful giggle. She was an avid gardener, dancer, hummingbird collector and art enthusiast. She loved trying new things and had a wonderful sense of humor. Mary was an excellent, caring friend who spent her entire life serving and advocating for others. She cared for many family members at the end of their lives including her sister, her late husband, both of her parents and even other residents at her mother’s memory care facility. Mary was proudly certified and worked as a radiology technologist for 20 years at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Pearl Longway, her sister Nancy (Del) Weeks, great-nephew Alex Capperauld, and her husband, Lyle Bert McDowell. She is survived by her brother Larry (Ardy) Longway, sister Lori (Mark) Longway Humphrey, nieces Vicki Capperauld, Cindy (Al) Hirsh, Sheri (Mike) Rogers, Tammy Jack, and Kelsie Stringham-Marquis, as well as great nieces and nephews Raimey Hoff, Corey Hoff, Michelle Rogers, Caden Jack and Matilda Stringham-Marquis.
A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at The Springs Independent Living Care on Monday, February 24th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Domestic Violence Resource Center by going to https://www.dvrc-or.org/donate/.
