Roger was born in Wellington, KS, to Merrick Lewis Berry and Verna Pauline Berry. He grew up in Concordia, MO Until December, 1966 when the family moved to Tucson, He graduated form Flowing Wells High School in 1971 and from the University of Arizona in 1975 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.

 

Roger worked in the mining industry, including mines in West Virginia, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Due to the downturn in the mining economy, Roger returned to the University of Arizona, where he completed a Masters degree in Systems and Industrial Engineering while working as a piano mover. With the completion of his master’s degree, Roger began a 26-year civil service career serving the US Air Force in, among other places Clovis NM, Texarkana, TX, Atlanta, GA, Indian Springs NV, Okinawa, Japan, Alamogordo, NM and Davis-Monthan in Tucson Roger retired in Tucson, where he enjoyed time with his friends at a cigar store, singing in the Northminster Presbyterian Choir, and traveling with friends and family.

 

He is survived by his siblings: Donna Berry, Wayne Berry (Becky), and Ellen Lou Cheek (John), and by his nieces and nephew: Ruth Berry, Rowen Berry (Brit), Jennifer Gelabert, and Micah Cheek; and, great nephews Hunter Cheek and Arlo Berry.

 

His memorial service will be held on January 18, 2025 at 2:00pm at the Northminster Presbyterian Church located at 2450 E. Fort Lowell, Tucson, AZ
