Alta was born in Post, Texas on March 3, 1930, to Edward Lee Hawthorne and Katie Bosworth Hawthorne. While in the constant care of her loving granddaughters and their husbands, her great-grandkids, cherished friends, and the angels at Hoffman Hospice, Alta went on to meet her Savior face-to-face on January 6, 2025. Over the course of her life of nearly 95 years, Alta fulfilled God’s everyday purpose for her pilgrimage, to love her husband, Vern, her immediate and extended families and all whom she encountered along life’s path, in the name of Jesus.
Alta was a longtime resident of Bakersfield, California, but lived from time-to-time in other places, as well. Alta was a diligent worker, at home and in the fields of business and education, where her expert administrative talents and skills were essential to business managers, school principals and teachers.
Alta loved to go places, from camping in the woods to travels in Europe. After retirement from the world of paid occupations, she and Vern volunteered to hop in their RV to travel and serve with Mobile Missionary Assistance Program, working with teams on church infrastructure projects throughout the U.S. They were always excited to tell stories about the things God was doing everywhere they went with MMAP.
Alta and Vern were married for 58 years before he passed away in 2007. Alta is survived by sons Randall and Jeff Brians, daughter Isabella Craig, 8 grandchildren and a ton of great grandkids. Needless to say, Alta spent a lot of time hugging people.
A private Celebration of Life is being planned. No flowers or donations are requested.
