Benny Fernandes

July 1, 1929 – January 11, 2025

Born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Benny was the youngest of six children. She married Mathias Fernandes, who preceded her in death in 2009, and together they raised three children: Fabia, late Franco, and Dolly.

Benny and Mathias moved from Tanzania to the United States in 1993 to be closer to their children. Benny was known to many as “Mama Benny,” “Grandma,” and “Aunty Benny.” She was a cherished member of St. Mary's Parish where her kindness and generous spirit touched the lives of many.

She is survived by her daughters, Fabia (Billy), Dolly (Lee); daughter-in-law, Theresa (late Franco) and grandchildren: Megan, Michael and Brittany. Benny's greatest legacy is the love she shared with those around her — family, friends, including strangers whom she welcomed as part of her extended family. Her unwavering love for God and her devotion to her loved ones was at the heart of everything she did. She was known for her selflessness, caring with grace and humility, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a kind word and comfort to anyone in need. Benny will be deeply missed, but her love and faith will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.

May her soul rest in peace. Amen.

We Entrusted Bernadette Fernandes's Care To

Accent Funeral Home

A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
