Justin Phelon Phillips
June 28th, 1954 - December 18th, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Justin Phelon Phillips, age 70, of Thornton, Colorado, who passed away on December 18, 2024.
Born on June 28, 1954, in Hampton, Virginia, Justin was the oldest child of U.S. Air Force Major Phelon Phillips and Margaret Phillips. As the son of a military family, Justin had the opportunity to live in many parts of the world during his youth, including Germany, Turkey, and Texas. He and his family settled in Colorado when he was a teenager, where he would later meet and marry his beloved wife, Sheila Schlagel. Colorado remained Justin’s home until his passing.
Justin was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors—spending countless hours fishing, hunting, camping, and jet skiing, particularly in the Colorado Rockies. His passion for music was ever-present, often enjoyed while relaxing at home or spending time with friends and family. Justin also had a sharp mind and enjoyed playing chess, a pastime he took up in his downtime, often playing on his tablet. He likely watched Star Wars and Star Trek re-runs more than anybody. His love of studying astronomy, reading books about Mt. Everest and wilderness survival also brought him much joy.
In addition to his hobbies, Justin's family was at the heart of his life. He leaves behind his daughter, Rachel Phillips, his sister Sarah Burbank and her husband John, his brother Bart Phillips, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila and his parents, Phelon and Margaret Phillips.
Justin's memory will be treasured by all who knew him, and his presence will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his life. A celebration of Justin’s life will be held at a later date.
Rest in peace, Justin. You will be missed but never forgotten.
