Balvina Leon Jensen
October 16th, 1932 - January 10th, 2025
Beloved Mother, Nana, Great-Grandmother (G.G.), and Tia, Balvina L. Jensen, aged 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on January 10, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.
Balvina was a Native Tucsonan. After graduating from Tucson High, she worked downtown at Steinfeld’s and Jacome’s. She then dedicated many years of service and retired from Tucson Unified School District. Balvina loved to dance, try her luck at the casinos, and enjoy the cool mountain air in Pinetop. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Balvina was deeply cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Rosa (Carlos) Contreras; her children, Barbara, Robert, and David (Kathy); her grandchildren, Lauren (Anthony), Sophia, and David; and her great-granddaughters, Kailani and Keana, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Catalina Leon; her sister, Anita Enriquez; and her brother, Justino Leon.
A service to honor and celebrate Balvina’s life will be held Tuesday, January 21st, at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1220 S 6th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85713, beginning with a Rosary at 10am and Mass at 10:30am. Burial will immediately follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N Oracle Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Arizona, 360 E. Coronado Road, Suite 140, Phoenix, AZ 85004, by calling 602-297-3800, or at https://alsaz.org/ways-to-give/.
Balvina will be deeply missed and remembered forever. We will especially miss her cooking our favorite foods, making us laugh, and being the strong and loving matriarch of the family.
