It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Esther L. Carter, who departed peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on August 16, 1943 in Wilmington, NC, she was the cherished daughter of Barron and Virginia Benson.
A Legacy of Love
Esther was a woman of immense warmth, kindness, and strength. She dedicated her life to her family, friends, and community, leaving a legacy of love that touched everyone she met. Her infectious smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Cherished Family
Esther is survived by her loving children, Johnny Carter, Michael Carter, and Lori Garner; her adoring granddaughters, Nicole King, Candice Garner, Courtney Garner, Ashley Guyton, and Wendi Carter; her great-grandchildren, Xavier Garner, Chancelor Garner, Bryce Sutton, Elijah Crawford, Abbygayle Crawford, Brayden Garner, Indianna Simpson, Luke Smith, and Kaitlynn Guyton; and her great, great-grandchildren, Nova Garner, Draylen Garner, and Ny’Zier Hickson. Esther is also survived by her brother, Albert Benson and a host of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Auburn H. Carter, Jr. and her son, Steven Carter, who she now joins in eternal rest.
A Life of Contribution
Throughout her life, Esther was actively involved in her Church, Trinity United Methodist. Her passion for sewing, painting, gardening and various crafts was evident in everything she did, and she inspired many to follow their dreams and passions.
A Celebration of Life
A celebration of Esther’s life will be held on Sunday, January 19th at 6 pm to 8 pm at Thompson Funeral Home and a graveside service will be on Monday, January 20th at 1 pm at Woodridge Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to come together to honor her memory and share stories of the joy she brought into our lives.
Esther L. Carter will forever be in our hearts, remembered for her unwavering love and the remarkable life she led. Her spirit will continue to guide us, and her memory will be cherished always.
