Evangeline Salazar Reyes
1930-2025
Nearly 95 years old. Born to Ysable and Cirilo Salazar. One of 11 children, a beautiful daughter Evangelina. Sister to Rafaela and Aurora (sisters), Aristeo, Fidel, Joel, Gersom, Elias, David, Pete, and Marcos, (brothers), sister-in-law and Auntie to countless nieces and nephews.
Mom had many captivating stories of her childhood growing up in Colorado. One describing a red coat she borrowed from a sister so she could follow her mama to the ice cream parlor in hopes of also eating a delicious ice cream. She knew if discovered she too would have an ice treat!
Colorado is where she met and fell in love with our dad Manuel. He became an Air Force Sgt. and she became a military wife. Sgt. and Mrs. Manuel B Reyes. While traveling cross country with our dad and six kids her life was a very busy one. She was a loved wife holding down the fort. She was an adored mother to Benjamin (Flor), Michael (Cyndy),
Rebecca, Theodore, Evangeline Jr (Junie) and Rafael Daniel.
Precious grandmother to Selina, Aaron, Kylie, Michael Benjamin, Shannon, Sequoia, Maria, Mark, Jose, David, Timmers, Josh, Victor, Stacy and Ivan. Evangeline was a darling great grandmother. She loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Numerous grandkids visited her house regularly and when they grew to adulthood they brought their kids to play and enjoy grandma's house. These cousins remain close to this day and will dearly miss their Abuela Reyes.
Evangeline Salazar Reyes was an extraordinary woman. Her strength and resilience are her legacy. While working at the hospital with a photographic memory on her side, she took classes at the U of A and later graduated with a nursing degree from Pima Community College. As an R.N. our mother helped bring many babies into the world while caring for their moms at Carondelet St Joseph's Hospital. After retirement she went on to work with Agency until full retirement. The nurse in her remained always through her whole life earning her at the very end Florence Nightingale Honors. She was pinned and read a poem.
A faithful daughter of God, she knew exactly she was going home to be with the Lord. We admire, we love, we will always and forever cherish her memory. Evangeline Reyes, a beautiful woman both inside and out. A child of God,a true believer, our darling mama is now with the Lord and for that we celebrate as she begins her new journey.
