Matthew Levi Grose, Sr.

Matthew Levi Grose, Sr, 62, of North Charleston, SC, passed away and into the arms of his Savior on January 11, 2025 after battling a long illness.   Matt was born on September 6th, 1962 to Herbert Russell Grose and Nellie Ann (Worrell) Grose in Allentown, PA.  He graduated from Glassboro High School and went on to further his studies at Valley Forge Christian College.  He pursued a career in Land Surveying and later Project Estimating, working for Pennoni and Associates, in the Philadelphia area, Arc Surveying in Mt. Pleasant, SC and Thomas & Hutton Engineering Services in Mt. Pleasant, SC.   

In June 1984, he wed his bride, Susanne Johnston Grose.   They had one child, Matthew Levi Grose, Jr.   Matt loved his Minnesota Vikings, USC Gamecocks, was an avid science fiction reader, and a gifted violinist.   While he could not hide his northern roots down south, he enjoyed all kinds of music, John Wayne movies, and his Momma’s down home cooking. Matt also had a concern for people experiencing homelessness and checked on several regularly.   He loved that Susanne coordinated their church’s participation with a local non-profit, F.E.D.U.P to feed and care for the underserved in the community and often helped with menu-planning and light cooking.  He was particularly pleased when Nadine Carmon, NPO and Ministry Founder of Break the Cycle and F.E.D.U.P acquired and renovated a bus to go to homeless encampments to meet and serve these people where they live. 

 Matt is predeceased by his son, and his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Susanne, and his sister, Lorenda Grose Spuler.  

 Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, 5032 Lackawanna Blvd, North Charleston, SC.
