Mary "Meme" Bacon Barrett
May 17th, 1939 - November 14th, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Bacon Barrett, 85, announces her passing on November 14, 2024. Mary, aka Meme, was born to Charlotte and Harold Bacon in Elgin, IL on May 17, 1939.
Mary lived a life marked by dignity and devotion to her family, friends, and community. She loved traveling with Frank and friends, having visited many countries in Europe, Asia, and most recently Egypt. She was a voracious reader, easily finishing a book a week. Mary was also known for her green thumb, with dozens of potted plants and a large yard with fruit and other trees. Additionally, Mary was a lifelong fitness buff, starting with years of tennis and eventually going to various fitness classes and walking 10K+ steps near-daily.
A founding member of Angel Charity and a board member of CTSO and other Tucson charities, Mary spent a lifetime giving time and energy to multiple charities, her family, and friends in need. As a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Tucson, AZ, and a devout Catholic, Mary found solace and strength in her faith.
Predeceased by her husbands Frank and Len, Mary is survived by her sons Mark, Kevin (Melinda), and John (Mary Kay); grandchildren Jason (Laura), Jenna (Sean), Kate, Aislinn, and Jack; great-grandchildren Clancy, Rowan, Tatum, Mick, Josephine, and Collins; sisters Kay (Dick) and Trish (Dave) and multiple nieces and nephews. Additionally, Mary was predeceased by her parents Charlotte and Harold, sister Judy (John), and brother Skip.
A funeral mass to celebrate Mary's life will be held on January 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 5150 N. Valley View Rd., Tucson, AZ. The service will be preceded by a Rosary at 10 AM and followed by a reception in the church hall. In place of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Mary's name to https://www.ctso-tucson.org/contribute-ctso/ or a check to UAF (University of Arizona Foundation) and in the memo area write “Ginny L Clements Breast Cancer Research Institute”.
