John "Jack" Burke Leahy
December 1st, 1936 - January 14th, 2025
John (Jack) Burke Leahy, 88, died January 14, 2024, in Brandon, Florida.
Jack was born December 1, 1936, in Ballston Spa, NY as the youngest of three children to Edward F. and Anna Mae (Burke) Leahy. Jack was married to the love of his life Barbara (Bobbi) Hungerford (Leahy) on February 20, 1960. They were happily married for 65 years. Jack honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1955 – 1958 earning the Army of Occupation of Berlin Medal in 1958 as part of the post war peace keeping effort. He was a life long Catholic and a member of St. Mark’s Catholic church (Lady Lake, FL) as well as All Souls (Sedona, AZ) and St. Patrick’s (Watertown, NY).
Jack and Bobbi had a once in a generation love story. Their story started in Colonie, NY with a $9,000 house and a $1,000 1957 Pontiac station wagon. Son Daniel arrived in February 1961 followed by twins Timothy and Clancy in June 1962. In November 1963, son Michael arrived followed by daughter Megan in 1968.
The family moved to Ballston Spa, NY in 1961 where Jack and Bobbi ran the family liquor store. They spent seven years there followed by a move to Watertown, NY in 1970. Jack was a salesman for Moore Business forms and was active in his sons’ youth baseball as well as the local community. In 1985, Jack and Bobbi moved to Sedona, AZ where they spent 26 happy years in the sunshine and peacefulness of Sedona. Jack continued his sales career and Bobbi continued teaching. In 2010, they moved to Lady Lake, FL to be closer to family and to enjoy retirement.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Bobbi, sons Daniel (Denise), Timothy (Renae), Clancy (Lorraine), Michael (Luann), daughter Megan, and 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jane Wilson of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joe Leahy and Anne Powers (Leahy).
