Roger Michael Solheim
November 19th, 1929 - January 16th, 2025
Frankfort – Roger Michael Solheim, 95, husband of Martha Sorg Solheim for 68 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025. He was born in Evanston, IL on November 19, 1929 to the late Michael and Carol Marco Solheim. The family moved to Frankfort when he was a young boy. Roger attended Elkhorn Elementary and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1948. He graduated from Cumberland College with an Associates Degree and continued his education at Eastern KY University before enlisting in the Navy in 1951. Roger worked for 41 years for Old Grandad/ National Distillery, finishing his career as Manager of the Shipping Department.
Roger was a Veteran of the US Navy, a member of the Elks Lodge, former Commander-in-Chief of the Frankfort VFW and a member of First Christian Church.
In addition to his wife, Martha, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Albert) Oberst; his son, Roger (Donna) Solheim; his grandchildren, Lauren (Aaron) Anderkin, Christine (Albert) Spare, Albert Oberst, Elizabeth (Jesse) Huot, Whitney (Bryon) Bruce, and Sarah Solheim; and his great grandchildren, Avery Anderkin, Milly Anderkin, Hank Anderkin, Dottie Spare, Poppy Spare, Ellie Spare, Oskar Huot, Rosie Bruce, and Adeline Solheim.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra Walpert and Sylvia Hays; and his great grandson, James Bruce.
After retirement, Roger became an avid golfer and travel partner with Martha. He enjoyed feeding the birds in his backyard and soaking up the sunshine. Known as Popi to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he spent countless hours playing with them and supporting their various interests.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd with full military honors. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or the First Christian Church of Frankfort in memory of Roger Solheim.
