Susan "Sue" Kay Rollins
February 3rd, 1939 - January 17th, 2025
Susan (Sue) Rollins, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025 at the age of 85 in Tucson, Arizona. .
Born in Emmetsburg, Iowa on February 3, 1939 to parents James Ausland and Francis Long Ausland.
Sue grew up in the small town of Curlew, Iowa as the oldest daughter of three. She attended the University of Iowa graduating with a degree in Nursing and was a lifelong Hawkeye fan. She married Gary Lockwood in 1960 and they had two children. She worked in various nursing roles until the birth of her children at which time she became a full time mom. During this time, and for the rest of her life, she was involved with many community organizations and served a leadership role in many of them. Forever the caregiver, she was always helping friends and relatives through any health battles or any crisis they were facing.
Gary and Sue later divorced in 1975. She then started working as a school nurse at Bettendorf High School. During that time she obtained her Masters in Counseling from the University of Northern Illinois as she wanted to best help the young students navigate challenges they faced. She became a second mother to many of them and cared deeply for them all.
She married Jim Rollins on August 4, 1984 and enjoyed 40 years of marriage before his passing last November.
They retired and moved to Tucson in 1999.
Both were leaders and volunteers in their new community and will be greatly missed.
Susan is survived my her children, Barbara Weno(JD Knight), Jim Lockwood(Mo) and stepchildren, Bonnie Burten(Steve), Helena Henry, Jeff Rollins(Robin), her sister Liz Bennett(Dale), and many grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Jim, sister Katherine Allen, and parents.
Her father, sister and she suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease. Please direct memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or the organization of your choice.
Sue will be cremated at Adair Funeral Home in Tucson, Arizonia. A joint celebration of life will be scheduled for Sue and her husband Jim at a later date.
