Barbara A. Higgins, age 92, passed away on January 16th, 2025, at her residence in St. Petersburg. She was born and raised in Watertown, MA, where she lived with her parents and seven siblings. Barbara met the love of her life, Edward T. Higgins, when he was serving in the US Navy. They married in 1953 and moved to Saugus, MA and began to raise their family.
Starting her career in electronics, Barbara and her dear friend Anita created their own wallpaper and painting service. Barbara retired from General Electric in Lynn, MA.
Barbara and Ed became permanent residents of St. Petersburg, Florida. They were members of the American Legion Post 14 and communicants of Holy Family Catholic Church. They enjoyed hosting gatherings with their neighbors, traveling to Ireland, and improving their homes together. They cherished the friendships they formed along the way.
She is survived by daughter Deborah Croke of Lynnfield, MA; grandchildren Ryan Marie Croke of Lynnfield, MA, Timothy (Courtney) Croke of West Roxbury, MA; Michael (Siobhan) Croke of Salem, MA; great grandchildren Braelyn, Riley, and Miles; great grandpup Cooper; her sister Maureen (Mike) Corkery of St. Petersburg; brothers-in-law Tony Rosado and Charlie Layte; cousin Paul Cummings, and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edward T. Higgins; daughter Donna Higgins Tanner of Lynn, MA and St. Petersburg, FL; son-in-law Timothy J. Croke of Lynnfield, MA; her parents Martin and Anna (Maxwell) Clynes of Ireland and Watertown, MA; six of her siblings Frances, Theresa, Martin, Susan, Sheila, and Linda.
Barbara will be remembered for her love and generosity. She was a friend to all.
Services will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church Tuesday March 11th, at 10am, with burial to follow at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations in Barbara's honor to the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
