Karolina "Karola" Longoria
September 27th, 1979 - January 7th, 2025
Karolina Longoria was born on September 27, 1979 in Dayton, Washington to June and Alfredo. Her life, though far too short, was one of boundless love, joy, and commitment to bettering the world.
Karolina grew up in Lacey, Washington, just down the road from her Oma and Opa, who passed on to her their passions for cooking. During this time, Karolina also developed a deep commitment to social justice, from migrant workers rights to the LGBTQ+ community, and the importance of adequate representation in government. These learnings became the fuel of Karolina’s life’s work, propelling her to speak up about climate change, criminal justice, and the crisis in Palestine.
After graduating from North Thurston High School in 1998 and obtaining a Marketing degree from University of Nevada, Reno, Karolina pursued a career that channeled her creativity, advocacy, vivacious personality, and love for food. Eventually, she combined all of these passions with the launch of her food and social justice platform, The Whole Revolution. Through her talented cooking, Karolina used the platform to address pressing issues like genocide, racial injustice, and the carceral system. Over the years, Karolina united and nourished tens of thousands, in both body and soul.
In 2009, Karolina met the love of her life, Yas, with whom she radiated love, joy, and resilience for 15 years. Their devotion to one-another withstood the test of time unequivocally—spanning 3 states, 6+ cities, brunches with friends, job losses, and family milestones. Karolina devoted the unconditional love of a mother to Yas’s son Jarren, forming an unbreakable bond. As their family grew, Karolina and Yas were role models to many, exemplifying steadfast devotion, providing support however possible, and standing up for what they believed in.
Throughout her life, Karolina had a contagious effervescence—especially during Seahawks games. Each game, she proudly wore her “Born into this” shirt while cheering alongside Yas, who wore her “Married into this” shirt. Over the years, Karolina and friends shared fond memories of NFL Sundays full of debauchery. Outside of Seahawks games, Karolina’s high spirits were inspirational as she gracefully balanced life’s dualities; she knew that life came with hardship, heartache, and loss, but also celebration, joy, and love. Despite ongoing health issues, her welcoming presence lit up each room she walked into, making those around her feel cared for, seen, and full of laughter. To Karolina, her wife, family, pets, and close friends were her world; she cherished each and every one of them wholeheartedly.
On January 7, 2025, Karolina unexpectedly passed away at the age of 45. Karolina is survived by her wife, Yas; her son, Jarren; her mother, June; her brother, Sam; her nieces, Seneca and Serafina; her nephew, Zane; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfredo, in 2022.
To honor Karolina’s memory, please consider donating to her GoFundMe, or rescuing an animal. In Yas’s words, “anyone who adopts a dog will be haunted by Karolina’s spirit.” Just like Karolina did, we hope you all live a life of joy, appreciate the small things, and lift others up. Karolina’s light will continue to shine through all who knew her as we radiate her effervescence throughout the world.
